The Ask

The Rio Tinto Group needed a warehouse structure for a new phase of its massive Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine. Due to the mine’s location in Mongolia, this new warehouse structure would need to withstand high winds and extreme temperature variations. Speed of project delivery and weather durability were both critically important.

How Sprung Delivered

Design features included fou protective doors with an all weather door hood system and Sprung’s exclusive low temperature winter membrane. Earth anchors were delivered in advance and installed so that structure assembly could begin immediately upon arrival of the building components.\

The overall project was delivered on time. Much of the construction happened during Mongolian winter, with temperatures reaching -40° C.
