つい最近まで、北極圏への旅行といえば、ツンドラ地帯でテントに宿泊を意味していた。1990年代初頭、アークティック・ウォッチ・チームは、エコツーリズムに新たな快適さをもたらすべく、ヌナブト準州のサマーセット島にウィルダネス・ロッジを建設することを決定しました。
アークティック・ウォッチ・ウィルダネス・ロッジのスプラング構造は、究極の北極圏体験を求めて夏のシーズン中訪れる何百人ものゲストに、宿泊施設、ダイニング、娯楽施設を提供しています。2つの大きな建物（30フィート×70フィートと30フィート×30フィート）はメインの複合施設を構成し、キッチン、ダイニングルーム、視聴覚映写室、ラウンジ、シャワーなどを備えています。ロッジには16棟の小さなスプラング構造（12フィートx12フィート）があり、プライベートキャビンとして利用されています。
