バッファロー動物園がリビング・エキシビッツと提携し、「ブーメラン・アイランド：南半球の鳥たち」という鳥類の体験型展示を行うにあたり、セキセイインコ、オカメインコ、ワライカワセミなど、自由に飛び回る鳥たちを間近に見ることができる、明るくて親しみやすい展示が必要でした。スプラングは理想的なソリューションを提供しました。
スプラングが設計した1,200平方フィートの鳥類館は、わずか2ヶ月で建設・稼動しました。明るくクリアスパンの内装、内蔵型スクリーン、出入りを容易にする2つの広々とした玄関ホールが特徴で、オーストラリアの奥地に生息する300羽以上の鳥を観察したり、触れ合うための最適な環境を提供しました。
「ブーメラン・アイランド：南半球の鳥たち」は一時的な季節限定の展示として企画されたものでしたが、動物園幹部は展示が終了してもスプラング構造を手放したくありませんでした。建造物を設置してから90日以内に、動物園は将来他の用途で使用する計画を立て、その建造物を購入することを決定しました。
