1980年代後半、トロント動物園は恐竜を展示しながら、企業や資金調達のためのイベント・センターとしても利用できる建物が必要だと考えた。
トロント動物園は1989年に最初のスプラング構造を購入しました。60フィート×208フィートの大きさで、デュポン社製テドラーホワイト膜を採用したこの建造物は、子供向けの恐竜展示としてスタートし、またイベントにも使用されました。動物園での最初の数年間、この建造物は数多くの成功した資金調達イベントの会場となりました。
