Building Responsibly
Environmental responsibility has guided Sprung Structures for more than a century, shaping the way we innovate, engineer and build. At Sprung, sustainability isn’t an added feature, it’s a core principle reflected throughout our business, from responsible manufacturing and efficient construction to ongoing improvements in our products and processes. This commitment to building responsibly is reflected in every Sprung structure, helping customers reduce their environmental footprint while delivering flexible spaces that support their evolving needs.
Long-Lasting Value
Sustainability starts with building for the long term. Engineered for exceptional durability, our structures help reduce environmental impact through energy-efficient design, virtually airtight building envelopes, natural light, recycled materials and reduced construction waste—features that all contribute toward LEED® certification. Built for permanence, yet designed for easy relocation and reuse, Sprung structures deliver lasting value, flexibility and a smarter approach to sustainable building for organizations committed to enduring environmental performance.
Durable Structural Frameworks
The structural framework of each Sprung building consists of extruded aluminum, a material chosen for its strength and resilience. Containing up to 80% post-industrial scrap, aluminum can be recycled at a rate of 90-95% at the end of its life cycle, ensuring minimal waste. Aluminum is also corrosion-resistant, which helps to ensure the longevity of our structures and reduces the need for replacements or repairs. More than 60% of aluminum in North America is produced using hydroelectric-powered smelters, which have a much lower environmental impact.
Membranes Engineered for Longevity
Durable and energy efficient, Sprung’s architectural membranes reduce maintenance requirements while offering incredible longevity. Designed to last 30+ years, these high-performance membranes are protected by advanced PVDF coatings that shield against UV exposure and airborne contaminants. This minimizes the need for replacement and further reduces both waste and embodied carbon. Additionally, the low-maintenance requirements mean no excessive water use for cleaning. At the end of their life cycle, the membrane panels can be recycled or repurposed.
Energy-Efficient Insulation
Available as an option, Sprung’s high-performance insulation combines exceptional thermal performance with materials and design that help reduce environmental impact. This formaldehyde-free fiberglass insulation is manufactured with an average of 60% recycled glass, reducing embodied carbon during production by 25%. With values ranging from R-25 to R-47, our customizable insulation packages provide remarkable airtightness and thermal performance to help minimize heating and cooling demands, lower greenhouse gas emissions and create more energy-efficient buildings.
Minimal Waste
Sprung structures are designed as comprehensive building kits that minimize construction waste. While traditional construction methods tend to generate substantial landfill waste, Sprung’s pre-engineered design significantly reduces excess materials. The modular nature of our structures means fewer components are shipped, resulting in lower emissions and transportation costs. Packaging materials, including wooden crates, are frequently reused or recycled, further reducing environmental impact. And, with manufacturing sites worldwide, our shipping distances are shorter, further lowering the overall environmental footprint.
