THE ASK

A coastal suburb of Christchurch, New Brighton is cold and rainy throughout the winter, and for that reason, ECSR was in search of a solution for a year-round training facility. With a large earthquake in recent memory, communities in the area had been struggling to raise capital for their projects. The fact that Sprung structures can be engineered to withstand seismic loads, coupled with their lower overall costs, made Sprung a perfect solution for the area’s needs.

HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED

Assembly of the Sprung structure, called the Canopy Outdoor Court, was completed in early July. The structure was quick to build and provided ECSR with excellent cost efficiency compared to what would otherwise have been a prohibitively expensive conventional structure. The new facility was designed for flexible, multi-purpose use. It is fitted out for indoor sport leagues and indoor winter training, with the capability for accommodating indoor recreational sports such as basketball, netball, volleyball, tennis, futsal, korfball, handball, pickleball and more. During the summer season, tennis nets will be put up for free public use. The ECSR wants to make the Sprung structure available to “as many groups as possible.”
