THE ASK
To better serve the growing Muslim population in Mississauga, MNN required a dedicated facility that could provide accessible space for worship, education and recreational activities. Seeking a flexible and cost-effective solution that could easily accommodate future expansion, MNN turned to Sprung to provide a structure capable of adapting alongside the community’s evolving needs.
HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED
Sprung designed and delivered a fully insulated 60’ x 132.1’ structure that serves as both a masjid (mosque) and community centre. Accommodating up to 505 people, the clear-span facility supports a wide range of programs and activities, including seniors group meetings, ESL classes, table tennis, badminton and career fairs.
In addition to providing ample prayer space, the facility features a connected vestibule that functions as a mihrab, or prayer niche, which faces the direction of Mecca. The building also includes a fully enclosed parent-and-child room and 80-inch televisions to ensure visibility of the Imam during worship services.
As MNN continues to grow, the organization plans to construct a permanent brick-and-mortar mosque, which is currently in the fundraising phase. Once that building is completed, the Sprung structure will be repurposed as a dedicated youth center, allowing it to continue serving the community for years to come.
