THE ASK

Plagued by overcrowding, the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre in London, Ontario, required a durable, customizable and cost-effective structure to increase its capacity. Specifically, the facility would function by separating intermittent inmates from the general inmate population to prevent smuggling and to improve staff and prisoner safety.

HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED

Sprung delivered a state-of-the-art, 112-bed standalone structure, named the Regional Intermittent Centre. Featuring our patented tensioned membrane technology, the building has two dormitories, a segregation unit, second-floor mezzanines with offices and guard watchtowers, secured check-in areas and waiting rooms, lockers, and all the essential security equipment to facilitate smooth day-to-day operations.inmates serving a custodial sentence of 90 days or less serve their sentence separately from the full-time inmates.
