The Ask
Amid a growing homelessness crisis, the City of Huntington Beach sought to build a safe, stable facility where unhoused individuals could find shelter while accessing wraparound supports, including case management, social services and housing connections. Aware of Sprung’s successful homeless navigation center project in San Diego, the City reached out for a similar approach. With urgency and affordability driving the timeline, Huntington Beach needed a building solution that could be deployed quickly and effectively to meet this critical community need.
How Sprung Delivered
Sprung, in collaboration with the City of Huntington Beach, Orange County Public Works, RPM Team, and Totum, transformed a vacant three‑acre lot into a fully operational homeless navigation center. To optimize the site, the City of Huntington Beach and Orange County Public Works combined OCPW’s existing 60’ x 105’ Sprung structure with Huntington Beach’s newly purchased 60’ x 90’ Sprung structure, creating a thoughtfully designed and efficient 60’ x 195’ facility. Fully insulated and equipped with Whisper Quiet electric exhaust fans, the Navigation Center was delivered in just four weeks and constructed in five. Opened in December 2020, the center provides 174 beds, a multi‑purpose room, administrative offices, and restroom and shower facilities. By offering essential services and support, the center guides clients toward greater housing stability.
