Southwest Airlines – Baggage Handling Structure

Play Video

The Ask

Southwest has turned to Sprung for a number of baggage handling solutions over the years. For instance, as part of a major baggage handling revamp at Chicago Midway Airport, Southwest needed a cost-effective, high-performance interim baggage sorting facility in place. Later, it also needed to expand and improve its baggage handling facilities at Pennsylvania’s bustling Philadelphia International Airport.

How Sprung Delivered

At the Chicago Midway Airport, a durable, innovative Sprung structure was leased and erected by Southwest’s on-site contractor within just a few weeks of the order being placed. Later, this adaptable, tensioned membrane structure was purchased by the airline and relocated to the Baltimore/Washington International Airport to also serve as a baggage sorting facility.
