THE ASK

In operation since 2021, MTM produces the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Mazda CX-50 on two side-by-side lines. It was determined that in order for “part carts” to travel safely back and forth between those lines, the MTM facility required connecting corridors that were weatherproof, easy to maintain and allowed for clear sightlines at pedestrian and truck intersections.

HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED

Sprung Structures provided the plant with two connecting corridors, one measuring 20’ 8” x 634’ and the other measuring 20’ x 673’. Each corridor also includes rolling service doors and a 50’ x 70’ intersection structure to allow for semi-trucks to cross through.

In addition, Sprung integrated polycarbonate Lexan clear panels into the side walls of the intersection structures to provide clear sight-lines where the part carts intersect with occasional oncoming traffic. MTM was particularly pleased with the Lexan panels as a safety feature, and with the impact-resistant property of the polycarbonate.
